Request to Cisco! Wanted one command

13 August 2008 No Comment

With my day-to-day troubleshooting I often use the trace mac  command to discover clients who may have aged out of the mac-address-table for some reason, After finding the mac I then have to go to the routing point for the vlans on that site and do a sh ip arp | I MAC to find the address I’m chasing. While this normally works it has its problems.

So what I would like Cisco to implement is the ability to perform a rarp request for my chosen mac on a layer 2 switch , Purely for management/troubleshooting,  Would make some of my work a little bit easier and it would be cool!

Unless this command already exists somewhere and neither myself or anyone I know has found it?

Josh.
