Narbik’s Bootcamp

23 October 2008 2 Comments

This post is about a month late, Been busy with some other tasks. And it probably reads like I wrote it without thought, and thats because I did.

I had the luck to purchase a two for one deal from IpExpert, this deal was for  IpExperts bootcamp and Narbik’s bootcamp.  Its been about two months since the IpExpert class and one month since Narbik’s.

Day 1 was a bit interesting, There was a very late change in the course venue and I was not aware of this, Thankfully the original venue pointed me in the right direction and was only a short cab ride away. I only ended up being about 30minutes late.

First impressions was no freebies :(, The usual assortment of pens, bags, shirts etc that are normally provided weren’t given with Narbik’s course. So make sure if you like to draw/write bring your own paper & pens.  On my desk were 6 manuals, One was labelled “Bootcamp” the other five were the Advanced Technology workbooks. Pretty impressive pile of books.

Usual self introductions were given, quick bit of chit/chat and we were into it. Narbik’s teaching style is AWESOME, As an ex-instructor I have high expections of trainers and Narbik exceeded them all. His ability to keep you focused and paying attention is very good. I  mentally drift alot! when I attend classes, except in this one.  There are no! powerpoint slides, Everything is whiteboard based  which is an excellent teaching style as it also forces the instructor to truly master the material.  With the occasional live demo to prove a point :).

The course runs as a mixture of Lecture followed by the relevant lab section. I managed to complete all the recommended labs usually by 11pm. So yes they are long days, But noone said the path to Router God was easy.

Days 2, 3 and 4 were very similar with lots of learning, laughs and late nights. By Thursday I was starting to burn out. My normaly study routine in fairly intensive but there was no down time on this course.

Friday was pretty interesting, The highlight of Day5 was the lab strategies section, Which focused on study methods, Lab suggestions and Narbiks personal review of your readiness, I felt a bit better when he said to me “Your ready man, just do it”  Unfortunately I had already booked my lab and it was 9 weeks away.   Friday was an early finish, So Matt and I went to get lunch, On our way back we discovered Narbik sneaking out, ( I would to if Matt was in my course ;) )
