Penguins Win! IPexperts bls does run on linux.

3 September 2008 One Comment

quick intro: My bls from IPexpert arrived yesterday. On their website it states that the bls works with windows,mac and linux. What their website doesn’t say is that the interactive menu does not work with linux and there is no ETA on a linux solution……. Yes I am pissed off about that.

So this is my attempt at geting the bls to be usable under linux with wine. :) It works on my system, and I will fix this post up when I get a chance and feedback. To little time somedays :(

To get the bls working on linux, first thing is download this file

the file is a preconfigured wine directory, It is running as win98 with ie6, windows essential codecs, media player clasic and flash :)

1 - extract the archive to your home directory. You should end up with /home/username/bls

2 - Make sure wine is installed :) I tested this with wine 1.0.0 in ubuntu hardy 64bit.

3 - Make sure the IPexpert bls drive is connected and mounted I will assume /media/IPEXPERT

4 - open a terminal as your user and cd to the IPEXPERT directory, ie cd /media/IPEXPERT

5 -execute the following command all on one line
WINEPREFIX=/home/username/bls wine IPexpert.exe

6 - The Bls menu should appear. Try to access the video files. If it doesnt display and the window freezes, execute this command
WINEPREFIX=/home/username/bls wineboot
wait about 5 minutes and try again, It should be ok. The wineboot command will need to be run first everytime you open the bls.

Let me know if this works/doesn’t work for you :)

    It works! Thanks man! I am going to add this is my blog directing traffic here :P

    I successfully ran it on OpenSuSE 11.0 utilizing Wine 1.1.3. Videos are a bit slow but it could be my own box’s fault.
